From March 30 to April 1, 2025, Lawrence Banks Director-General of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), led a delegation to Taizhou for in-depth discussions with the Taizhou Medical Hi-Tech Zone (Gaogang District) on strengthening collaboration in biotechnology, jointly promote the signing of ICGEB China Regional Research Centre (China RRC) Phase II Establishment Agreement. Key Projects: Trieste Laboratory for ICGEB China RRC and Treatment of Leiomyoma Project

The Trieste Laboratory for ICGEB China RRC aims to establish a multinational collaborative research platform to deepen scientific cooperation between researchers from ICGEB member states and China RRC's scientific teams. During the visit, Director-General Banks conducted a comprehensive review of the research and industrial ecosystem in the Taizhou Medical Hi-Tech Zone (Gaogang District) and witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation agreements. On the afternoon of March 31, ICGEB and Taizhou Medical Hi-Tech Zone held a signing ceremony at the Administrative Committee of Gaogang District, formalizing two key agreements, the "Cooperation Agreement of Trieste Laboratory for ICGEB China RRC" and the "Cooperation Agreement of Agent for Treatment of Leiomyoma Project" marking a strategic new phase in Taizhou-ICGEB collaboration.

Strengthen Collaboration: Phase II Development of ICGEB China RRC  

Since ICGEB China RRC launched in 2020, it has emerged as a key hub for China and ICGEB member states collaboration in biotechnology. On April 1, Director-General Banks and his delegation went to Beijing to sign the Phase II Establishment Agreement of the ICGEB China RRC with the China National Centre for Biotechnology Development and the Taizhou Medical Hi-Tech Zone (Gaogang District). The agreement will expand the RRC's research capabilities in vaccine R&D, bio-therapeutics, and diagnostic technologies, while strengthening international scientific cooperation to support Taizhou China Medical City in establishing itself as a globally influential hub for bio-pharmaceutical innovation.
