4th Meeting of the BRICS2


On May 25 - 26, 2021, the 4th meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Biotechnology and Biomedicine was held in Beijing . This year’s meeting was sponsored by Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology of China and hosted by China National Center for Biotechnology Development. Represents and experts from BRICS countries– Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa participated the meeting online.

BRICS countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – are prominent members of ICGEB. The BRICS Working Group on Biotechnology and Biomedicine discussed The BRICS STI Framework Programme (BRICS STI FP) , aiming to support research on areas that can best be addressed by a multinational approach. International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) is an inter-governmental organization for promoting the development of biotechnology. It has laboratories in India and South Africa, Regional Research Center in China, and strong ties with Russia and Brazil.  

Dr. Yili Yang, director of ICGEB China Regional Research Centre, attended the meeting and introduced China RRC to the group. He reported the current research works and collaborating activities in the newly established RRC in Taizhou. He expressed that the cooperation of BRICS countries on biotechnology and bio-medicine are consistent with the mission of ICGEB and China RRC. RRC would like to actively participate the cooperation among BRICS countries and make unique contribution.
